Picture of the Week

16/10/16

This weekend we went to Sakura, Chiba. It's located about 2 hours south of Takadanobaba.

This is the only windmill in Japan, it was built by the Dutch around 50 years ago. We mainly went there for the flowers, what you can't see is that the whole windmill is surrounded by beautiful flowers. I was also mildly bullied by a local Japanese man. So I was fascinated by this Praying Mantis due to it's size, I never realised just how big they are, then all of a sudden a man grabs it from behind and it starts freaking out so he drops it, he then says that I should pick it up and tells me how to do it, I look at him and say I'm okay thanks lol, I can literally see its open mouth. Anyway, he laughs and walks on.

What's really interesting and amazing is what happened after we visited the windmill, but you'll have to wait for the next PoW for that or read Louise's post :)

This week we went to the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum.

This museum was filled with houses from around Japan from many different time periods. Some being over 600 years old. It's amazing how they managed to get them all here. Lucky for us, on the day we went they were offering special actives. For some reason, Louise registered us for plastering. I was a bit nervous at first as I had never even attempted plastering before. Whilst we were waiting for our slot I was watching the assistant with an eagle eye, as a result it seems I have a natural gift for plastering.
People even stopped what they were doing to watch. The instructor asked if I had plastered before.
Looks like I may have an alternative career option lol.

All in all, it was a fantastic day.

This weekend we went to Kasai Rinkai Park.

It was extremely bright and hot, unfortunately Louise forgot her sunglasses and as a result, had to use the umbrella.
Kasai Rinkai Park is nice location filled with children, a sea few and an aquarium.

The picture is from the Tuna Tank section, a massive 360 degree fish tank filled with tuna and a Sunfish which was cool to see, although only a baby, so nothing big but still amazing to see.

This weeks Picture of the Week was hard to choose from, so I'll most likely upload another one soon or at a random point.

This picture was taken on 'Day 1' of my birthday weekend.

Louise had arrange my three day birthday as such.
Day 1: Earth
Day 2: Sky
Day 3: The Sea

This was taken was taken at Nezu Shrine, about 30 minutes away from where we live

Louise chose this shrine as it's just like a scene from 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. I really wanted to see this shrine last time I was in Japan but I was too busy.

FINALLY! A description for this picture.

This was taken at National Science and History Museum. The animal in the foreground is an elephant and not as some people think, a rhino. To the left of the picture you have a giraffe and the whale in the background is a sperm whale, they didn't have a sign for it but I know what the carcass of a sperm whale looks like, that's David Attenborough.

Anyway, a quick background story. My friend Oli came down to stay with us and we decided to go to a museum.

Sadly the museum was too dark for my GoPro so only a select view pictures where deemed in focus.

Every weekend, Louise and I make sure we do something, either a museum or a nice park. This weekend we went to Miraikan, the museum of the future!

Miraikan is located about an hour away from where we live, so it took a while to get there. The museum is on Japan's first man made island (I think to protect Japan from Tsunami's but not sure).

The picture was taken on the second floor (third if you're in Japan), the globe in the middle shows several clips, the continents moving (pangea), weather systems and future earth predictions.

All in all, it was a great day. Oh and Louise had a nice conversation with some robots :)

This was taken outside our apartment. We normally walk alongside the road, but I found this path that runs next to the river. A very pretty path that will have cherry blossoms during the cherry blossom season.

A local tram that is right outside our apartment, it is very old. I believe it was around during the second world war and was used to bring aid to the people of Tokyo. It is one of the last trams running in Tokyo and as a result lots of tourists come to see it.

So, this is the first picture of the week! It's the view from our kitchen window, it's a simple picture, more of an exmaple picture as it was the first picture I could get my hands on. It was taken at around 8:30pm, so the sun is just setting.
